Okay, this is the default detector at Wakenva VA, about halfway way between Trammel and Nora on the original Clinchfield line (now CSX).
My question is: Every reference source I’ve gone to says that “Wakenva” is a portmanteau word (mashup, i.e.) comprising West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia. People, look at the word!
It would have to be “WEkenva” for that to work. Hmm.
Blogging the Railroad Tunnels 
I was curious if you had any information on the rumored abandoned freight tunnels under Louisville.
Louisville was the headquarters of the L&N railroad and a hub of activity in the early 20th century. While I have no specific information on these possible tunnels (Louisville is a little outside of my area of exploration), I wouldn’t be surprised if they were shown to exist.
My grandma lives in Walk Envy…my grandpa was raised there and died there…no one calls it Wakenva except people that dont live in the area..and the people who made the road sign. I have never heard the wva/va/ky tale about the name though haha.
I thought the story about Wakenva was a little dubious, but it’s apparently the official line. Somebody told somebody who heard it from someone else…
