    I happened on this site when searching for communities near the railroad that ran between Middlesboro and Harlan. My grandfather and grandmother met on a train that offered passenger service between those cities in the 1920’s. (I’m guessing about the year.)

    I also remember crossing the river on a swinging bridge from the US 119 side to visit one of the Pope relatives.

    The Whitesburg page is nostalgic for me because my other grandparents lived high above a railroad bridge that crosses the Cumberland River.

    I remember seeing about two coal trains a day, and we would wave to the guys in the engine and caboose (they still had a caboose, if my memory serves correctly).

    I can’t quite picture where the rail line went from there. Possibly thru Cowan towards Pineville?
